All You Need to know about the Egg Donation Process

Most people think that women donate eggs for the sake of money. But that is not completely true. Compensation can be one of the reasons why women show interest in becoming an egg donor.

There can be many other reasons why women become egg donors. Some women do it to help others.

Becoming an egg donor would require great commitment, time, and energy. Some women donate their eggs to people who really want to become parents.

For example, single men, people having infertility issues, gay couples, etc.

Egg Donation Process

The egg donation process usually varies from one clinic to the other. If you wish to become an egg donor, during your initial visit to the clinic, the coordinator available there will explain the whole process.

If you have any questions, you can ask him or her directly without any hesitation. The specialists in that clinic will perform the required health checkup to know whether you can donate your eggs or not.

They will know your medical history and conducts the ultrasound scan.

Before accepting your request, your counselor will let you know all the terms and conditions. If you accept their terms and conditions, the next process begins.

Now the ovaries stimulation will happen with the help of hormone therapy. This process plays a very important role in the production of multiple follicles that contains immature eggs. For this process, it may take around 2 weeks.

During these 2 weeks, your doctor might ask you to visit the clinic around 2 times and sometimes 3 to 4 times for conducting the blood tests and monitoring scans.

Once the doctors find follicles ready, they will give the required hormone injection to make the eggs mature. When this happens, scheduling for egg collection will be done, post 36 hours.

After 36hrs the egg donation happens in your egg donation center in the UK. The donor will be given a sedative, which helps in the relaxation process.

This sedative actually helps the donor avoid discomfort throughout the process.

Can donors donate their eggs

Now insertion of an ultrasound probe happens into the donor’s vagina for the collection of the eggs. After this process, you can stay in the clinic for about 60mins before going home.

It is better to seek the help of your friends or family members to accompany you when returning back to your home.

Eligibility Criteria

To become an egg donor, you must meet the eligibility criteria. Your age must be between 18 to 35 years to become an egg donor. You must not have any genetic disorders. Your weight should be normal.

Can donors donate their eggs to their relatives and friends?

Yes, donors can donate their eggs to their relatives and friends. In general, the recipients will not get the complete contact information of the donor.

But the children born through this process can get complete contact details of the donor only when they reach the age of 18 years.

There are many childless couples in present-day society who are eagerly waiting to have kids. In fact, many couples feel a family is incomplete without children.

To help such people many women are coming forward to donate their eggs. Another great advantage of becoming a donor is that you can get your body tested free of cost.

Always check the terms and conditions properly before moving forward with your decision on egg donation.

Are there any side effects of egg donation?

Yes, some people might experience minor side effects after the egg donation. Abdominal pain, weight gain, and bloating are some of the side effects, which some donors might experience at times.

Eligibility Criteria

You can always contact your doctor to manage these side effects. You can donate your eggs around 6 times during your lifetime.

After donating 6 times, you will be no longer eligible for donating your eggs. If you wish to donate your eggs, the right age is between 21 to 29.

Make sure that you take complete rest for one or two days after donating eggs to avoid unnecessary complications.

Avoid stress and follow a healthy and balanced diet. Follow your doctor’s advice without fail after your egg donation procedure.
