There are a few signs of skin cancer that a person should not ignore.
Bump
The first sign is a bump that is translucent and waxy. At first, it is going to look like a bug bite or a pimple but once you have been given it a chance to heal and it doesn’t, then it could be something else. This could be an early sign of squamous or basal cell skin cancer. It is important to remember that it does not always need to bleed, hurt, or cause another symptom in order for it to be skin cancer. If it is not supposed to be there, then you are going to know.
This is going to be especially true if you get a hard dump on your eyelid. This type of cancer can be known as sebaceous gland carcinoma because it is going to start in a person’s oil glands. You can also get a nodule under the skin that is shiny or firm. Most of the time, this is going to be found on your torso, head, and neck. This type of skin cancer is going to be known as Merkel cell carcinoma.
Patch
The second sign is a scaly patch on your skin. Most people are just going to think that their skin is just too dry or they have eczema. But if you have treated the scaly patch with some over-the-counter medications or tried to keep it moisturized and nothing helps, then it could be a sign of squamous or basal cell carcinoma. Basically, this is going to be a patch of skin that is going to be scaly, will not heal, and possibly grow at a slow pace.
Sores
The third sign is any type of sore on your skin that might be oozing or crusty. This is going to be known as the classic basal cell carcinoma lesion. This means that it is not going to heal no matter what you do to try to make it go away or get better. Basically, it is going to be like a wound that the center is not going to hold together. But if you have any spots that ooze, are crusty, or bleed, then you are going to need to go see a Keller Dermatology specialist immediately.
Lesions
The fourth sign is if you have lesions that are red or purple that appear on your skin. The lessons from Merkel cell carcinoma are going to be red, purple, or purple nodules. This is also true of the Kaposi sarcoma. But it is going to start inside of blood vessels, so you are also going to have some brown, red, and purple tumors or patches on your skin. There is also a chance that they could appear on your mucous membranes or inside of your mouth. Most of the time, this is going to happen to someone who has an immune system that is weakened due to another illness like AIDS.
These are the top four signs of skin cancer that you are not going to want to ignore for any reason. Therefore, if you see any of these signs, then you are going to want to make an appointment with your dermatologist as soon as possible. This is going to be especially true if you have something on your skin that just will not go away no matter what you do to treat it. Most things like a bug bite or a pimple are going to go away in a few weeks after you have treated it.
